Dr. Cora Voyageur (Sociology) appointed to the Texaco and Lincoln-McKay Chair in North American Studies

Congratulations to Dr. Cora Voyageur, PhD, a professor in the Department of Sociology, on being appointed to the Texaco and Lincoln-McKay Chair in North American Studies.

"I am honoured to be appointed to the Texaco and Lincoln-McKay Chair in North American Studies. This appointment will allow me to continue to research and write on indigenous issues," says Dr. Voyageur.

Dr. Cora Voyageur is a full professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Calgary where she has taught for more than 25 years. Her research interests explore the Indigenous experience in Canada including: leadership, community and economic development, women’s issues, and health. Her books include: Firekeepers of the 21st Century: Women Chiefs in Canada; My Heroes have always been Indians Editions 1 & 2; I Found Myself (in the most Unlikely Place): Indigenous Identity Formation in the Post-Secondary Institution (with Barbara Barnes). She co-edited Hidden in Plain Sight: Contributions of Aboriginal Peoples to Canadian Identity and Culture, Volumes I and II; Restorying Indigenous Leadership: Wise Practices in Community Leadership, Editions 1, 2, &3; and a Special Issue on Indigenous Leadership in the International Journal of Leadership (with Chellie Spiller and Rachel Wolfgramm). 

Dr. Voyageur is a residential school survivor and a member of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation from northern Alberta.
