Request for an Overload

Overloads will be considered for students who require a specific course that cannot be taken in another term. Overloads are not considered in cases where the course is not required for your program or if it can be taken in another term without impacting your degree progression.  If you are a student from a program outside the Faculty of Arts, please ensure you have a comment on file from your home faculty confirming this course is required prior to submitting the form. We deny all overload requests submitted without home faculty confirmation.

You must meet all prerequisites for the course you are requesting. If this course will be your third attempt, you must speak with an undergraduate program advisor in the Arts Students’ Centre before submitting this form.

Requests are considered in order of need and will be processed the week before classes begin.

Deadlines for submission:

  • Spring 2024: April 8 - April 29
  • Summer 2024: May 20 - June 17
  • Fall 2024: July 29 - August 26
  • Winter 2025: December 2 - January 1

Requests submitted after the deadline will not be considered.  Submitting a request does not guarantee an overload. Course capacity is limited and even in cases of strong need not all overload requests can be accommodated. We recommend you continue to watch for openings in the course while we review your request.
