SCPA professors adam bell and Bruce Barton will be participating in “Beginning: A National Conversation” hosted simultaneously at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity and Simon Fraser University Goldcorp Centre for the Arts in Vancouver, May 2 - 5. As the event website states,

“This gathering will be the country’s first focused conversation on how we can all collectively act to better support and showcase the remarkable creativity of artists living with developmental disabilities. Thanks to our lead funder the Canada Council for the Arts, BEGINNING will bring together artists, support networks, arts funders, arts organizations and other stakeholders to ensure that all partners gain a better understanding on how we can create a more equitable arts and culture sector that is representative of all neurodiverse voices.”

adam and Bruce will be part of a dedicated panel entitled “Innovations in Arts Programming + Supports + Learning,” which is sponsored by the School of Creative and Performing Arts through the generous support of the Faculty of Arts and the family of the late Thomas Poulsen. The panel will explore the challenges, opportunities, and obligations of large arts institutions, including post-secondary programs, in relation to individuals with developmental disabilities. Other presenters include Stefan Honisch (Simon Fraser University), Amanda Mackay (Leighton Arts Centre) and Howard Jang (Banff Centre).
