Celebrating excellence: UCQ alumni dinner unites nursing leaders
Under the glistening lights of the W Hotel Doha, the University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) hosted a grand reunion on Dec. 6, drawing more than 300 alumni as well as UCQ faculty and senior leadership staff. The night sparkled with camaraderie and celebration as the Alumni Dinner unfolded into an unforgettable event.
The evening commenced with a warm welcome from Dean Janet Rankin, whose words encapsulated the pride and joy felt in seeing the UCQ family reunited.
"Tonight is a testament to the legacy of excellence that each one of you carries forward in your respective nursing careers," said Rankin, PhD, setting the tone for an evening dedicated to honouring achievements and fostering connections.
Hassan Kandar, MEd'14, director of Student and Enrolment Services, took the stage to share an impassioned message, highlighting the invaluable role of alumni in shaping the university's narrative.
"Your journey from students to leaders in health care is a testament to your dedication and passion for making a difference in the world," Kandar said, urging attendees to reflect on their UCQ experiences and embrace the spirit of continuous growth.
Amidst the evening's agenda was a call for participation in a survey, emphasizing alumni's pivotal role in shaping the future trajectory of UCQ and its programs, a sentiment echoed by Kandar during his presentation.
Noon Arbab, BN'18, vice-president academic of UCQ's alumni executive, delivered an inspiring message underscoring the diversity of specializations UCQ alumni have ventured into, including roles at Hamad Medical Corporation, Sidra Medicine, Primary Healthcare Corporation, private clinics and various other institutions.
"Your varied expertise and unwavering commitment to health-care excellence illuminate the path for future generations of UCQ graduates," Arbab said, acknowledging the vast impact of UCQ alumni across the health-care landscape.
Commenting on the importance of alumni engagement, Prof. Hala Sultan Al-Easa, PhD, President and CEO of UCQ, emphasized that "this reunion serves as a testament to the unwavering bond that unites us. Your accomplishments stand as pillars of inspiration for our current students."
The night resonated with shared stories, laughter and renewed connections, fostering a sense of nostalgia while igniting the flame of ambition and collaboration among the UCQ community.
As the Alumni Dinner concluded, attendees departed with hearts filled with pride for their alma mater and a renewed commitment to advancing excellence in health care.
