Joshua D. Goldstein

Dr. Joshua D. Goldstein’s research focuses on the history of Western political thought—particularly the foundational European modernity in the 18–19 centuries—to explore how identity has been conceptualized as ethical, the institutional conditions for its achievement and maintenance, and how we conceptualize which diverse identities count as worthy of inclusion, respect, and support. He also examines the ways sexual diversity is conceptualized, the boundaries around rightful sexual activity, relations, and institutions, and the relationship of the body to identity.
