Dr. Marica Cassis

Dr. Marica Cassis’ research focuses on the ancient and medieval Near East, with a focus on Byzantine and Syriac archaeology. Within this large field, however, she works specifically on the inclusion of gender theory in Byzantine archaeology. Her work also focuses on the interaction between Muslims and Christians in the Near East in the medieval period, with a particular emphasis on reconsidering old narratives which were created by colonialism and orientalism.
