Calgary students impress at moots across the country

In the annual competition against the University of Alberta, UCalgary Law took home the Alberta Court of Appeal Moot trophy as the overall winners of the moot. Congratulations to second-year students Kristin McDonald and Alexandra Wickett (Criminal, Respondent), second-year students Shuna Williams and Sophie Lorefice (Civil, Appellant), and second-year students Joel DeWiel and Omelia Tedesco-White (Constitutional, Appellant). The teams were coached by Michael Bates of Ruttan Bates (Criminal), Chadwick Newcombe of Kahane Law Offices (Civil), and Robert Moyse of Code Hunter LLP (Constitutional)
Third-year students Marni MacKay and Jana De Waal won Best Team at the Walsh Family Law Negotiation Competition, and Marni tied for second place for individual negotiator. The team was coached by UCalgary Law instructor Deanne Sowter.
Second-year students Kyle Havert-Crans, Blair Wentworth and Sheldon McDonald, and third-year students Rachel Kardel and Riley Bender also had a strong showing at the Corporate Securities Moot and performed really well in each round. The team was coached by John Lawless of Bennett Jones LLP.
