Department of Art and Art History students win inaugural Winter City Design Competition

The project team comprises of the Department of Art and Art History students and Engineering students is one of the two winners of the City of Calgary's inaugural Winter City Design Competition.

To make Stephen Avenue a more welcoming place in winter, the Art/Engineering team designed “Infinito” - a lit tunnel that focuses on intimacy, connection, and social interactions. The team wanted to create a harmonious environment, an area suitable for people of all ages to visit, play, and take pictures. The warm colour from the structure's material and its dynamic lighting emit warmth in this cold winter, bringing unity and hope to Calgary's outlook.

The team will receive funding to build and install their designs along Stephen Avenue in February 2022.

Congratulations, team!
