A call for submission sponsored through the Office of the Dean for the first annual Faculty of Arts holiday card received a wide range of student submissions from across the fourteen departments and schools that comprise the Faculty of Arts. A cyanotype by Zoey Watson, a third year BA Art History, Minor in Architectural Studies student from the Department of Art and Art History was chosen as the 2023 design.

Watson’s artist statement describes The Past and the Future as an artwork, “captured through the medium of Cyanotype, [that] serves as a visual narrative entwined with the theme of climate, energy, and sustainability. This high-contract blue and white composition features an old windmill, emblematic of the past, juxtaposed against a backdrop of numerous contemporary white windmills. Set in an expansive field under a cloud strewn sky, the artwork symbolizes the evolving landscape of energy production.”
Watson’s work has been printed onto a limited-edition card, as well as formatted as a digital image for website and social media.
Congratulations to Zoey Watson, and a sincere thank you to all students who submitted their artworks for consideration.
