Introducing our newest Department Heads
Congratulations to Dr. Warren Wilson (Anthropology and Archaeology), Dr. Susan Cahill (Art and Art History), Dr. Rob Huebert (Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies), Dr. Jenny McKenney (English) and Dr. Paul Chastko (History).
Thank you to the outgoing Department Heads for their exceptional service, including Dr. Charles Tepperman and Dr. Joelle Welling (Interims, Art and Art History), Dr. Ozouf Sénamin Amedegnato (Interim, English), and Dr. Jewel Spangler (History).
Dr. Warren Wilson, Anthropology and Archaeology
four-year term effective July 1, 2025
Dr. Wilson is a professor in the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology and has been interim head since July 2024. He was GPD for the department from 2021-2023 and has been a Child Health & Wellness researcher with the Alberta Children’s Hospital Research Institute since 2015. Warren will continue his work in the department with a commitment to advancing the Faculty of Arts academic mission, fostering transdisciplinary collaboration, and prioritizing equity.
Dr. Susan Cahill, Art and Art History
five-year term effective July 1, 2025
Dr. Cahill has been a faculty member in the Art and Art History department since 2014 and has had an intrinsic role within the department serving on various committees. She has served as UPD for three years and led the Curriculum Review for the BFA Visual Studies degree. Susan has a number of areas of specialization including Canadian art history, art of war and surveillance, and issues of museum representation and display.
Dr. Rob Huebert, Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies
five-year term effective July 1, 2025
Dr. Huebert is a professor in the Department of Political Science and has been interim director of CMSS since September 2023. He has been associated with CMSS since the Centre’s creation and is the chair of the editorial board of the University of Calgary and director of the International Relations program. Rob researches and publishes in the areas of Canadian arctic security, maritime security, and Canadian defence and foreign policy.
Dr. Jenny McKenney, English
five-year term effective July 1, 2025
Dr. McKenney has been a faculty member in the Department of English since 2011 and has served as UPD for four years and on several committees including EDIA and Teaching and Learning. Her specialty resides in 18th century studies and she has published several articles on the subject.
Dr. Paul Chastko, History
five-year term effective July 1, 2025
Dr. Chastko has been a faculty member in the Department of History at the University of Calgary since 2006 and received his undergraduate and masters degrees here as well. An active member of the department he has served for over six years as UPD and two years as GPD. Paul’s specialty is North American petroleum industry history.
