Professor named Stikeman Elliott LLP Research Fellow in Corporate Law

Professor Sharon Mascher has been named the 2017/18 Stikeman Elliott LLP Research Fellow.

Sharon's project examines existing carbon disclosure requirements in Canada, Australia, France, the US, the UK and the EU and compares the approach to carbon disclosure taken by multinational fossil fuel companies operating within these differing regimes. The project will seek to determine whether best practice corporate carbon disclosure correlates with statutory reporting requirements. Building on the recommendations of the G20 Task Force, this project will result in a series of recommendations relating to carbon disclosure requirements in Canada. This project will contribute to the national and international discussion around carbon disclosure, climate change as a material risk, and corporate responsibility/liability in relation to climate change.

The Stikeman Elliott LLP Research Fellowship in Corporate Law is a $10,000 fellowship that is kindly being provided by Stikeman Elliott LLP for research in the area of corporate law that provides practical input on current legal issues. A faculty member will hold the fellowship and the funds go entirely toward employing a JD or graduate student.
