Schulich School of Engineering celebrates its 1st annual Maker Week
Anyone can be a designer, builder or maker!
The makerspaces at the Schulich School of Engineering were buzzing with activity as students, faculty and staff from across the University of Calgary participated in the first annual Schulich Maker Week, which ran from Feb. 27 to March 2.
From 3D printing and augmented reality to music and robotics, participants got the chance to explore many different workshops offered by the Maker Multiplex and Zetta, our digital innovation hub.
Schulich Dean Bill Rosehart says he was really looking forward to hosting this event:
Schulich Maker Week was a great opportunity to showcase our makerspaces to our faculty, staff and students. We enjoyed welcoming the UCalgary campus community to Schulich and can't wait to do it again next year.
Schulich student Joseph Tandyo was one of the many who attended Maker Week and says it was a great experience: “I attended the soldering workshop and had so much fun. I ended up doing the AR/VR workshop, as well as the 3D-printing workshop. Aside from having fun, I have also learned a lot from attending these workshops.”
Although Maker Week was a great opportunity to explore and “test drive” Schulich’s makerspaces, you don’t have to wait until the next showcase planned for 2024. Students, faculty and staff are welcome to take training and explore these spaces, free of charge, anytime. Learn more about the Maker Multiplex.
